 I used the clip from blog 3 which was from the movie Source Code. The director follows the 180 degree rule because he never jumps the line. For the parts when he is on the train, the camera is always in front of him. When we move to the scenes where the woman is at the military headquarters the camera is always behind her or to her side. If it is in front of her it is because she turns around. The camera never breaks the 180 degree rule in these scenes either. The director doesn’t break the rule of thirds either. All the important things fall on these invisible horizontal and vertical lines. The different ways his body is positioned in different shots shows me that the director made sure the main elements lined up on these invisible lines. The same thing happens when we go to the senses of the woman in the military headquarters. They make sure the box window that you can see his body through is on the lines. She is one the lines as well. They make sure her face and lower half are on one of the points. The director also follows the 30 degree/30 percent rule. The director moves the camera a lot through the different scenes. There is a few shots that doesn’t move the full 30 degree, but most of his shots do. In the start of the scene he is barely on camera. As the camera moves, more and more of his body shows up on scene. This shows us that he does follow the 30 degree rule. Another example is when they move the camera to a side shot. This is showing us that not only does he follow the 180 degree rule because he doesn’t cross the like, he also follows the 30 degree rule. The director seemed to follow all the rules. As I was watching the clip I did not notice him break any of the rules.

The theme of this movie is even when life is at its worst you still have to keep going, for yourself and your children. This scene exemplifies this theme because it shows the main character losing everything. The only thing that he doesn't lose is his son. It shows his life struggles. In this trailer, he never stops trying to better his life. I believe that the theme is active because it never comes out and tells you what to think. Its a movie that wants you to take out of it what you want and make it your own.

Well one of the things that helps to reinforce my theme is the spacing. Throughout the trailer we can see that he doesn’t have much space anywhere. His home is small and towards the end when it seems he become homeless, him and his son are curled up in a corner. This shows us the limited about of space they have. The shape also reinforces my theme because their are a lot of shadows cast throughout this trailer. His face always seems to be more in shadow. This gives us a more somber mood or feeling. His life is going to shambles around him, so the shadows play apart in symbolism. Tension and Release play a part in this trailer as well. A lot of tension is built up as his life falls apart in front of us. It creates tension because we don’t know if he will be able to fix his life or not. Some of the tension is released when he meets the stock broker and starts taking the test to be hired. The clip is more active than didactic because they don’t tell you what to get out of the movie. They want you to get out of it what you want. Another thing that plays a part in this clip is the idea of contrast and affinity. The main character contrast people in this clip, but he is like others as well. You can tell that the people he lives around or surrounds him are lower class like himself, which would be an affinity to him. He is in contrast with the upper class people or the stock broker that is presented to us in the trailer. He wants to be just like the upper class people. 

Animation Deconstruction

I chose two pictures from the show the Looney Tunes. In the first picture the hue is analogous. The colors in the background are mainly black and gray except for the yellow light in the windows. The characters contrast each other, so they all stand out from the background. In the second picture the hue is complementary. This complements the two characters. The girl character has a light yellow hue while the boy character has a black and orange hue. In the first picture the background is saturated except for the bright light coming from behind them and it is desaturated. The character are desaturated. They are all light in contrast to the background. In the second picture the background colors are saturated and the window light in the background are desaturated. The characters and the car they are in are desaturated as well. The value of the first picture is high for the background because the background is so dark except for the bright light coming from the background. The second picture has a high value for the background and the guy character. The girl character has a lower value. In the first picture all the character have a slight shadow cast across their faces and the inside of the car is made dark. The inside of the car has a lot of shadows. This portrays the mood of fright or terror because of the look of their faces and the dark lighting. In the second picture the girl doesn’t have any shadows on her face because the light is shining directly on her. The guy character’s face is completely in shadows. This covers his emotions not letting us know exactly what he is thinking. You are only supposed to know the girls emotions in this picture. The parallel movements in the first picture are the way they are looking. They all seem to be looking to the side and slightly back. The character in the back is the only one looking forward, this shows the overlapping movement of their eyes. In the second picture the parallel movement would be the turn of their heads. They are both looking at each other in the same way. In the first pictures shows the weight of the characters by the seatbelt holding them down. The second picture shows weight by the characters holding on to the top of the car.

I chose to do two songs from the same artist. The artist I chose to do my listening framework sheets on was Shinedown. The lyrics of the two songs are very different. The Crow and the Butterfly is about a Mother losing her child and wanting him back. At the very end she is comes to terms with what happened. The song Second Chance is about a girl leaving home and saying goodbye to her parents. She is in search of her own life. The lyrics are completely different. Even though they are completely different Shinedown sings about serious situations. Both of these songs have a serious tone.The melody is more upbeat in Second chance than it is in The crow and the Butterfly. The Crow and the Butterfly melody is slow, but intense. The rhythm for the song Second chance has a moderato tempo, while The Crow and the Butterfly has an Andante tempo. The source of rhythm for both of them were guitar, drums, and vocals. The groove for the Crow and the Butterfly was powerful, intense, and it was very prominent. The song Second chance was powerful as well, but it was more upbeat, solid, and behind the beat. Since the songs I chose were from the same band, I noticed they used the same instruments in both songs. The only instrument that I picked out in The crow and the Butterfly that I did not pick out in Second Chance was the tambourine. The emotional architecture for both were close to the same. Again, I feel this is because I listened to two songs from the same band. The intensity for both of them was loud. The Crow and the Butterfly was more intense than Second Chance, but Second Chance had its moments. The pitch on both of the songs was high. I think this is because the singer does not change, therefore, the octive won’t change a whole lot. The timbre for both of them was simple. I could hear all of the sounds and they were all distinct. The organization was ordered. The neither of the songs had a chaotic feel to them, but just a flowing order to them. I like Second Chance better because it is more upbeat and the lyrics hit closer to home than the lyrics for The Crow and the Butterfly do.

This scene takes place in two different atmospheres or situations. One of the atmospheres it takes place in is a train. The spacing of this would be known as limited space. I would classify it as limited space because there isn't too much echo and he is close to the camera while talking. The sound doesn't have to travel that far before it reaches to the camera. The other parts of the scene take place in an office of a military headquarters. This would be known as limited space. The area isn't that big and there is a bunch of machines in there with them. They have enough space to be more than flat, but the sound doesn't take that long to reach the camera letting us know that it is not deep space. I would have to say after watching this clip a few times that the sounds would be causal. I say this because it is only literal sounds and they aren't representing or symbolic of anything. You hear him talking on the phone. You hear the heart monitors and his voice over when they are in the military headquarters. The sounds would also be known as diegetic. This means that the audience and the actors can hear the sounds. The monitors would be know as off screen noise in this particular scene because we never actually see the monitors, but we know they are there.

One of the stories I read was about Flaum as a boy. He never got along with his teacher. One day they were told to create a short story. He failed because he didn't make the requirements. Nick Thompson wrote about a tiger trying to escape a zoo. Every time he jumped out of his cage he jumped into another cage at another zoo. This cause Flaum problems because this was the only kid who did well. The moral of this story is face your struggles head on because that is the only way you will come out successful.

This quote by Oscar Wilde struck a chord with me. As a college student, I am pushing myself to be the best and do the best. I am supposed to do what the professor says and when I get back from class I am supposed to do what my peers says. It is really hard to be yourself at times. Who wants to be that awkward person who stands out from everyone else? I can answer that, no one. You see everyone around you and you think they have it figured out, but they really don't. When you aren't you, then who are you? This is a quote that I live by. Most people want to be accepted so badly, they lose themselves in the process. This quote not only is held on a personal level for me, but a professional one as well. As a young college student it is hard to find your place in the world. I am trying to figure out, not only who I am, but who I want to be. The media world is a creative and very competitive place to want a career. People get turned away everyday because they do not live up to the standards that are placed upon them. This is where my quote plays a part. I hate it when people change who they are just to get someone to like them or their work. Now, I realize that you have to do things that some times you don't like. That is not what I am talking about. What I am talking about is peer pressure. Doing stuff that you know isn't you, but doing it anyway because you want a spot on the team or group. This not only happens with teens and young adults, it happens with working adults as well. I am going into a very creative industry and being myself is the key to my success. This is why most people struggle and fail. You have to know who you are and love yourself before someone else is going to love you. That goes for your work as well. If you love your work, then one day you will meet someone that will love your work just as much as you do. It might take getting through a few rejections to get you to the right person, but when you do you will feel accomplished. I know this may sound like relationship stuff, which it could be, but that is not what I am talking about. I am talking about putting who you are into your work and staying true to yourself. No one is truly happy when they are only being someone else because they think thats who the other person wants them to be. We all know of that guy in the workplace who is so far up the boss's butt that the boss just blows him off. This is because the guy is being who he thinks the boss wants him to be and not himself. He would be more successful if he was just himself! I mean who wants someone who is exactly like themselves?? Boring!!

Tessa Turner's Media Blog

After awhile of thought, I think I want the name of my blog to be Tessa Turner's Media Blog. The reason I decided on this name is because it is professional. This gives me the opportunity to show possible employers my work in the future. I plan on including projects I create throughout my stay at Ohio University. This could be music, videos, and possibly scripts. I will keep the layout of my blog professional, however, I did use the blue color scheme layout. I didn't want it to be completely plain because who wants to look at someone's blog when it has no color. I love looking at pictures. So, I will post pictures that inspire me to work hard and that go along with my projects. I want my blog to show people that even though I am young, I can still have some pretty great ideas. I want it to show people that I am professional and intelligent. I also want them to see that I have a sense of humor because a sense of humor can get you far in life. I would like my blog to show people how creative I am. I want them to be able to view my projects and see how much work I put into them. I believe the creation of this blog will help me have a place to promote my ideas. This could be a portfolio I use to help me get the job I want in the near future. This is not only going to help me for professional reasons, but it will help to show me what I need to work on, especially if people comment on the blogs I put up. This blog will help me put my ideas to paper. Some times the challenge is not only figuring out an idea, but figuring out how you are going to put that idea on paper. I am excited to start this blog that will only help me in the future.
